Holding a Diploma of Animal Ecology means my understanding of animals goes far beyond basic pet care. My studies focused on animal behaviour, ecology, physiology, welfare, conservation, and the complex relationships between animals and their environments.

This knowledge has helped me develop a strong understanding of how animals behave, communicate, respond to stress, and interact with their surroundings. It has also given me practical skills in animal observation, health monitoring, husbandry, safe handling, and recognising changes that may indicate illness, injury, or behavioural concerns.

Combined with my professional experience in wildlife management, rescue and rehabilitation, and caring for a wide range of domestic animals, my qualifications allow me to provide thoughtful, attentive care tailored to each individual animal’s needs.

Through wildlife rehabilitation, I worked closely with veterinarians and experienced carers in emergency care, rehabilitation, medication, wound management, and ongoing health monitoring. I have also rehabilitated my own horse following a serious injury, working alongside veterinary professionals throughout recovery.

While I am not a veterinarian, these experiences have given me a strong practical understanding of animal health, welfare, and rehabilitation. They have reinforced the importance of observation, patience, consistency, and early intervention in providing effective care.

To me, excellent pet care is about much more than feeding and exercising an animal. It’s about understanding their behaviour, maintaining their routine, recognising when something isn’t quite right, and ensuring they feel safe, comfortable, and secure while you’re away.

As a qualified Animal Ecologist, I have over six years of professional experience working with wildlife, domestic animals, and people across South East Queensland. My work has involved animal behaviour, husbandry, health monitoring, rehabilitation, conservation, and safe handling across a wide range of species. These roles have developed my practical skills and a calm, confident approach to animal care in varied situations.

Beyond my professional work, I have extensive personal experience caring for a wide range of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, snakes (venomous and non-venomous), lizards, rabbits and hares, chickens, ducks, pigs, rodents, companion birds, and freshwater fish. Through wildlife rehabilitation, I have also cared for possums, gliders, owls, echidnas, kangaroos, and other macropods.

This breadth of experience allows me to confidently care for animals with specialised needs—something many general pet sitters cannot offer.
